Hello there! Did you know St. Patrick’s Day is less than a month away? I’m sure you did. Well, today I am sharing how to make this adorable Rainbow Pom Pom Cake Topper. This craft is incredible easy to make and what better way to celebrate the Irish holiday than with cake and colorful pom poms. Right?!
I was inspired by Studio DIY’s Rainbow Rock Candy Cake Topper for this project.
Every year my home town has a St. Patrick’s celebration complete with parade, green beer and corned beef and cabbage. The last two years I have ran in the 5k race. The town is called Murphysboro after all. So, needless to say, it’s a pretty big deal for a small town. I actually have a lot of Irish decent in my family. I also have pale skin and reddish tinted hair, but enough about me.
Let’s get to these pom pom toppers!
Here are the supplies I used to make the pom pom toppers:
Here is how I made them:
First, I started by making yarn pom poms in ROYGBIV or rainbow colors. I did leave out indigo. I feel bad, but it’s really hard to find yarn the perfect color of indigo. I used a small pom pom maker, but you can always look on Pinterest for DIY’s. I have seen a lot of tutorials on how to make pom poms. I just think it is easier to use the maker.
Next, I hot glued bamboo skewers to each of the pom pom using the flat end. Just make sure you let the glue dry before placing the pom pom on the cake. No one wants a fuzzy pom pom falling off.
The final step is to place the pom pom toppers into the cake. I cut some of the skewers and placed them sporadically on top of the cake, but still leaving them in the order of the rainbow. I just love how this turned out!
How are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?
