Hello there! Have you been obsessed with the watermelon trend this summer? I certainly have been and I am so excited to share this fruity craft with you. I created this Foam Watermelon Memo Board using foam sheets and paint. It’s complete with watermelon seed thumbtacks for a three dimensional layer of fun. This memo board would be great to display in a kid’s room, office or even a school classroom. It’s a lively way to display reminders and notes.
Supplies (affiliate links):
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Sheets – 1/2″
- FloraCraft® StyroCutter® Plus
- Make It: Fun® Foam Tools
- FloraCraft® StyroGlue®
- Make It: Fun® Foam Eyelet Screws
- FloraCraft® Smooth Finish®
- Acrylic Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Metal Tack Backs
Instructions:
I started by using the StyroCutter® Plus to cut a 12″ x 12″ watermelon shape and four 1 inch watermelon seeds. This is a heat tool that easily slices through foam. Just be careful when using this electronic cutter because it does get hot.
I applied a thick layer of Smooth Finish to the foam cutouts using a plastic spatula. The putty-like material will get down inside the foam holes and acts as a filler. Once the Smooth Finish drys completely, lightly sand with a fine grit sandpaper.
I used acrylic paint in Royal Fuchsia for the flesh of the watermelon, Festive Green for the rind, and Lamp (Ebony) Black for the watermelon seeds. I applied one coat and let that dry completely, then painted a second coat.
Apply a small amount of StryroGlue to metal tack backs and glue to the back of the watermelon seeds.
The last step was to place a Foam Eyelet Screw to the back of the Foam Watermelon Memo Board so you can hang it on the wall.
I seriously think the watermelon seed tacks are my favorite!
I made this Foam Watermelon Memo Board for my daughter’s room. I thought she could hang messages and pictures that she draws on this adorable board.
