This easy to make Pumpkin Spice Everything Vinyl Coffee Mug is a perfect craft project to enjoy your favorite fall drinks in.
Well, school has officially started and I am so ready for fall. It has been so hot and humid here lately and I am ready for cooler temps. Fall is my favorite time of year with the leaves changing colors, a crispness in the air, the food from harvest, and pumpkin spice everything. Today, I am sharing how you can make a fall coffee mug with vinyl. It’s a simple craft project that can be customized to your preference. Pumpkin spice lattes are the best drink ever!
Supplies (affiliate links):
- coffee mug – I prefer white
- permanent black vinyl
- opaque transfer tape sheet
- pumpkin spice everything text
- electronic cutting machine + tool kit
- Isopropyl alcohol
- cotton ball
Instructions:
Start by opening up either the Silhouette Studio or Circut Design Space. I have both the Silhouette Cameo and Circut Explore Air and use both electronic cutting machines. For this project my Silhouette was already hooked up to my computer so I used it. I am using the text Afinity which is a thick handwritten font. I sized the text to approximately three inches to fit on the coffee cup I had. Then, send it to the machine to cut the vinyl. *When you set the Cameo to cut vinyl I recommend the blade to be set at 2 and the speed at 5. You may want to slow the speed down to 2 to ensure the cut is cut smooth and even with no tears. I set the blade at 2 because this vinyl is thicker than normal.
This pumpkin spice everything vinyl coffee mug was a trial and error project. The only vinyl that worked great on the coffee mug is the Oracal 651 permanent vinyl. Also, the thicker handwritten fonts work better than thin and wispy fonts.
After the text has been cut on vinyl, you will need to weed and remove the negative space.
Next, cut a piece of transfer tape to fit over the vinyl text. The best opaque transfer tape is this one from Expressions Vinyl. It sticks so much better and is of higher quality.
To prepare the coffee mug, wash and rinse the mug. Use a cotton ball to apply rubbing alcohol to the outside of the mug where you plan on putting the text. Let dry completely.
Place the transfer tape on the coffee mug where you would like the text to be. Use a scraper tool to run over the transfer tape to adhere the vinyl to the mug.
Carefully remove the transfer tape and you are done!
The pumpkin spice everything vinyl coffee mug can be ran through the dishwasher in the top shelf but I recommend hand washing to insure the vinyl does not peel off.
I hope you enjoyed this vinyl coffee mug project! Bring on fall and pumpkin spice everything!!!
