Enjoy the holiday season with a DIY Merry and Bright Vinyl Mug. It’s perfect for sipping a cup of coffee or hot chocolate on a cold winter day. It makes a great gift idea too!
Hello there! Christmas is in full swing at my house. If you follow me on Instagram (@thecasualcraftlete) then you have seen the pretty wrapping paper that I just bought at Target. One of the holiday gifts I made this year is this simple and easy DIY Merry and Bright Vinyl Mug. I am planning on packaging some Christmas candy and putting it inside the mug for a gift for my sister. This mug is so cute that I just might have to make one for myself!
Supplies (affiliate links):
- Merry and Bright Image
- Red Permanent Vinyl
- Transfer Paper
- Electronic Cutting Machine and tools – Silhouette or Cricut
- Scissors
- Mug
- Rubbing Alcohol and Cotton Ball
Instructions:
I started by purchasing and downloading the Design ID #98879 hand lettered Merry and Bright phrase from the Silhouette Design Store.
I sized the image to 3.136 in x 2.889 inches to fit the size of my coffee mug. I sent the image to my Silhouette Cameo to cut the vinyl. The only vinyl that worked great on the coffee mug is the Oracal 651 permanent vinyl. *When you set the Cameo to cut vinyl I recommend the blade be set at 2 and the speed at 5. You may want to slow the speed down to 2 to ensure the cut is cut smooth and even with no tears. I set the blade at 2 because this vinyl is thicker than normal. I then used a weeding tool to weed the negative space of the vinyl image.

Are you able to put this in the dishwasher?
The Casual Craftlete says
Hi Amanda! You can put it in the top rack of a dishwasher but I recommend hand washing the mug to prevent the vinyl from coming off.
