Bright Gold Foil Tray – transform a plain wooden serving tray into a pretty glam piece using DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint and Decou-Page Paper.
Hello there! Today I am sharing a Bright Gold Foil Tray using DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint and Decou-Page Paper. This is an easy project that is great for beginners or the seasoned crafter. I wanted to create a bright and elegant tray for summertime. This tray can be used for craft supplies, breakfast in bed, serving drinks, coffee table decoration, displaying flower arrangements and more. All you need is just a few simple materials to get you started.
Here are the materials I used to create a Bright Gold Foil Tray:
- Wooden tray
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Smitten
- Decou-page Matte finish
- Gold Basic Decou-page paper
- Foam Brush
- Scissors
I also made color blocking coasters to go along with the tray using:
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Smitten
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Serene
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Lace
- Washi tape
- Foam Brush
- Cork Coasters
Let’s make the tray:
First I started by purchasing a plain wood tray at my local craft store. You can buy a new tray or reuse an old one. The paint I choose for the tray to give it its bright color is American Chalky Finish paint in Smitten. First of all, I love this color. To me it is a bright coral color. And second, props to the person who named this paint. Smitten is totally the perfect name for this paint color. Love it!
I used a foam brush to apply the chalky finish paint to the wood tray. I gave the tray three coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. The great thing about Americana Chalky Finish Paints is that they dry quickly. So, it really did not take me long to paint the tray. I painted the inside bottom of the tray because the decou-page paper is translucent.
I wanted to give the tray an elegant look, so I choose a piece of gold foil decou-page paper. I measured the inside of the tray and cut a piece of geometric gold foil paper to be placed inside the try. The gold foil is very shiny and glam looking. These new decoupage papers are great because they are significantly thinner than most papers on the market, which means it is easy to apply and effortlessly eliminate creases and wrinkles leaving a seamless finished product.
I applied a thin layer of decou-page in matte finish to the inside of the wood tray. Then I placed the piece of decou-page paper I cut out inside the tray. I applied another thin coat of decou-page on top of the paper and let it dried completely. You want to make sure to use your brush to smooth out the paper to prevent air bubbles. Decou-Page dries quickly just like the chalky finish paints.
To make the coloring blocking coasters, first I purchased a package of cork coasters from the same craft store. I placed a piece of washi tape on the coasters to block the paint. Next, I choose three chalky finish paint colors and applied them with foam brushes. I really like this trio of colors together.
I just love how this bright gold foil tray and coloring blocking coasters turned out. I am all set for some summertime fun and entertaining.
