Hello there! Today, I am sharing a little piece of my home. My husband recently tore out the walls in our living room and hung, taped, and painted new sheetrock. We never really had a defined entryway space, so I wanted to create a DIY Hairpin Leg Entryway Table to give the space more characterization. Our house is very small and this table is just perfect. It’s a focal point but has lots of negative space with the hairpin legs. It’s modern and I added a few vintage touches. This table is sleek and I love how it looks!
Supplies (affiliate links):
- Americana Decor Satin Enamels 8oz – Woodland Green
- Americana Decor Satin Enamels 8oz – Pure White
- Wreath Stencil
- 1″ x 12″ x 28″ Wood Board – cut to 34″
- 4 – 32″ Raw Steel Hairpin Legs – I ordered mine my Etsy here
- 1/2″ Wood Screws (12)
- Paintbrush
- Drill
- Sandpaper
Instructions:
I started by painting the entire wood board with a coat of Americana Decor Satin Enamels in the color Woodland Green. After the first coat of paint was dry, I lightly sanded with a fine grit sandpaper and applied a second coat for full coverage.
I wanted to add a simple detail to the board. I taped down a wreath stencil with painters tape to secure the stencil in place. I used a small foam roller and applied a very small amount of Americana Decor Satin Enamels in the color Pure White. It is always best to use less paint with more applications then have a mess with lots of paint leaking underneath the stencil.
I used a sanding block to very lightly sand over the wreath stencil for a worn/distressed look.
Finally, I screwed the hairpin legs to the bottom of the board using an electric drill.
This DIY Hairpin Leg Entryway Table was super easy to make and so much cheaper than buying one at the store. I love DIY’s because you can customize them exactly how you want.
I used raw steel hairpin legs for my table. The unfinished steel will rust overtime, but I love the look of the patina. You can always paint or buy already painted hairpin legs.
My friend Kristi is the owner and artist behind Barn Owl Primitives. This online shop is dedicated to handmade vintage typography wall and home decor. The CAPTURE LIFE sign pictured above is one of Kristi’s many creations. If you like the sign, you can purchase it here. There is even an option to customize the board and font colors. I love how awesome this sign fits in this space. This DIY Hairpin Leg Entryway Table turned out better than I expected! It definitely defines this space and makes it more homey.

Oh this is fantastic! I have a narrow entryway in my 1875 victorian and have been trying to figure out a small table to fit for two years. I can see this being the perfect DIY to solve my space problem since it’s so light. Thank you for this post!!

Thanks Amanda! The hairpin leg table is easy to make and light. My craftsman house was built in 1920 so I understand small space. Let me know if you make one!

You’re right; your table really turned out great! I love hairpin legs. The “capture life” print works so well with it. Visiting from Show + Tell party.
