I love the designer, Kate Spade. Her style and designs are classic and sophisticated but also fun and flirty. Her designs appeal to women of all ages. I was definitely channeling her style to create these DIY Kate Spade Inspired Bangles and I think I nailed it pretty good. If you are looking to make a handmade Mother’s Day gift, this would be perfect for any mom who loves colorful jewelry.
Thank you to DIY Bangles.com for providing the wood bangle bracelets for this project. The larger bangle is 3 inches and the smaller bangle is 2 – 1/2 inches. The different size bangles are great for stacking on your arm.
Supplies: (affiliate links)
- X-Large 3 inch x 1 1/4 inch unfishined wood bangle bracelet
- Small 2 1/2 inch x 1 inch wood bangle bracelet
- Dazzling Metallics Acrylic Paint in Glorious Gold
- Americana Acrylic Paint 2 oz in Frosted Plum, Chartreuse Yellow, Colonial Blue, Bright Salmon, Snow (Titanium) White, and Aqua Sky
- Custom 1 inch unfinished wood spade shape I bought from this Etsy shop.
- Paint brushes
Instructions:
First, I started by painting both bangles with the Dazzling Metallics in Glorious Gold. I used a small foam brush to apply two coats to the inside and outside of the bangles. Then I painted the custom wood spade shape using the same metallic paint. Let dry before moving on to the next step.
For the small bangle, I placed two pieces of tape one to the bottom and the second piece to top of the bangle, making sure to cover the same amount on both parts. Then I painted the taped off section with Americana Acrylics in Aqua Sky. This is a new paint color by DecoArt and it is bright and beautiful.
Once the paint was dry, I removed the tape. I used a hot glue gun to glue the painted spade to the bangle. The 1 inch spade shape is the exact height of the small bangle. The inspiration for this spade bangle came from this image on Pinterest. The bracelet is no longer available, so if you like it, you will have to make your own.
For the larger bangle I started by placing two pieces of tape at the top and bottom just like the spade bracelet. Then I cut smaller pieces of tape to tape off different size rectangles. I used Americana Acrylic Paint in Aqua Sky, Frosted Plum, Chartreuse Yellow, Snow (Titanium) White, Bright Salmon, and Colonial Blue to fill in the taped off pieces. All of the colors are new expect for Snow (Titanium) White.
Let the paint dry before removing the tape. This bangle was inspired by Kate Spade look on the bright side hinge idiom bangle. I love the color palette of this bangle.
