I am not going to lie, at the end of the summer I am definitely ready for my daughter to go back to school and she is actually ready this year too. We have done some school shopping but still need to get a few supplies. One thing that is covered is her lunch bag for this year. I created this adorable lemon bag by using stencils and paint. It was super easy and it looks great! I love that fact that she will be the only one with a lunch bag like this one because it is custom made. This is a fun project for kids to make and they will enjoy taking to school.
How to make a DIY Stenciled Canvas Lunch Bag
Supplies:
- Americana Reusable Stick On Stencils – Lemon
- American Multi-Surface Satin 2oz Paints – Lemon Zest, School Bus, Soft Jade, Melonball, Ballerina, and Pink Cadiliac
- Canvas Lunch Bag
- Sponges
Instructions:
For the DIY Stenciled Canvas Lunch Bag, I wanted to create a watercolor look and this was achieved by mixing paint colors together.
I use makeup sponges a lot whenever I am stenciling because they are very easy to use and inexpensive. For the lemon peels, I mixed American Multi-Surface Satin in Lemon Zest and School Bus. By mixing multiply paint colors together, you can create dimension and depth to your stenciled pattern.
Place the Americana Reusable Stick On Stencils – Lemon on the canvas lunch bag. The back of the stencil is sticky and will stick to the canvas but you still want to hold down the stencil while painting to prevent the stencil from moving. Very lightly dab the sponge over the stencil. When it comes to painting a stencil, less is more. You want to use as minimal paint as is possible to prevent bleed through. You can cut the stencil for easier use.
To complete the large lemon, I use a leaf stencil and American Multi-Surface Satin in Melonball and Soft Jade. I really like how the paint colors turned out. For the small lemon peels, I used the same step as I did on the larger lemon and for the lemon flesh, I mixed Ballerina and Pink Cadillac because pink is my daughter’s favorite color.
When I finished stenciling the bag, I felt that it needed something else so I made paint splatters using a paint brush and the soft jade colored paint. I think it turned out great and my daughter loves her new lunch bag.
This DIY Stenciled Lunch Bag would be a great project for older kids to make because they will have fun and be able to share their style at school.
