Cinnamon sugar mixture (1/2 cup sugar and 1 tbsp cinnnamon)
Instructions
Pour lukewarm water over yeast, stir and let stand for 10 mins.
Heat milk in the microwave for 30 to 45 secs and let sit.
In the bowl of a stand mixer cream together the butter, salt and sugar. Add beaten eggs and nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, pour the milk into the soften yeast and blend liquid mixture with 2 cups of flour.
Then add the milk and flour mixture into the stand mixer with egg mixture. Beat until everything is well combined. Add enough flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Pour the dough onto a floured surface and knead for just a couple of minutes. Let dough rise until double (about 2 hours)
Roll the dough out on a floured surface until about ⅓ inch thick. Use a donut cutter to cut donuts (I used a biscuit cutter and the cap from a milk jug to make the holes) Let rise for the second time until doubled.
Add to a pot of 375 degree oil, just a few donuts at a time so as not to crowd the pan, and fry until golden, about 2 minutes each side.
Drain on a paper towel lined plate before sprinkling the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Serve immediately.
