Every year I get excited about fall… the cooler temperatures, flannel, boots, falling leaves, and pumpkins. Instead of decorating my home with fall colors that don’t match my decor like orange and red, I decided to blend more tranquil colors that you can already find in my house.
Super Simple Ways to Transition Your Space for Autumn
Every time I prepare to transition to a new season’s decor, I always ask myself what is the look I’m going for? I love minimal decor and generally neutral colors. BUT if you love going all in and using the traditional holiday theme colors, go for it!
- Add color and texture – incorporate a few fall themed throw pillows and some comfy throws. The textures can instantly make your space feel cozy and warm.
- Bring the outdoors in – head outside and pick up a few pinecones, leaves, and branches to bring the outdoors in. You can’t get any more budget friendly than this my friends.
- Let the smell of fall fill the air – lighting and fragrance are things that people relate to the season.

Muted Tone Pumpkins Supplies:
- Floral Pumpkin Picks from the craft store
- Acrylic Paints in your color choices
- Paint Brush
- Wire Cutters
- Floral Fillers such as grass or raffia
- Glass Dome (optional)
How To Easily Create Lovely Muted Tone Pumpkins:
Start by painting the pumpkins. I find that the best way to paint them is by leaving the picks on and placing them inside a mug or cup. This will allow you to paint the entire surface of the pumpkins all at the same time.
I used neutral acrylic paints that would match my living room decor. Use a paint brush to apply two coats for full coverage allowing the first coat to dry completely.
To add depth and texture like I mentioned earlier, I mixed white acrylic paint with a dab of the color paint. Remove most of the paint from the brush and dry brush the pumpkins.
Dry brush is a painting technique in which a paint brush that is relatively dry, but still holds paint, is used. The light color on top makes the grooves of the pumpkin darker which mimics its realness.
After the painting is done, you can remove the stems and picks by using a wire cutter.
I added some faux eucalyptus leaves and raffia in between the two pumpkins to create a more appealing visual display.
Finally, I put the lovely muted tone pumpkins into a glass dome or cloche to create the cutest coffee table decoration.
