Have you ever wanted to make a sign, but never thought you could? Then this post is for you!
Today I’m sharing how to make a cute diy sign when you’re not a diyer; no special tools or machines required. All you need are a few easy supplies. Signs are such a simple and fun way to add character to a space.
I have had a menu board I bought at Michaels shoved in the back of my office closet for a couple of years now just waiting for the perfect project to present itself.
Recently I bought a few pre-made felt flowers from my friend Brandi’s Etsy shop – TheHappyDoorWreaths and the idea of making a sign came about.
Supplies to make a super easy sign:
- Some type of wood board. Most craft stores have pre-made wood board signs with a cord for hanging.
- Felt flowers. You can find lots of options on Etsy.
- Wooden word cutout. You can also find many options on Etsy. CrazyCutouts is the shop I purchased the faith cutout from.
- Paint – optional if you want to paint the cutout or board.
- Greenery (stems and leaves).
- Hot glue gun.
Easiest Tutorial Ever:
Step 1: You can start by painting the wooden word cutout using a coordinating paint color from the felt flowers. I am using a mustard yellow acrylic paint that is easy to use and dries quick on wood.
You can purchase just about any word from the dictionary that you can think of or that’s available. I would recommend choosing a word or phrase that has significant meaning to you. That way you won’t tire of a trend that comes and goes but will have something that is special and will last forever.
Step 2: I started by arranging the wood cutout on the board to see where to place it. Next, once I was happy with the arrangement, I used a hot glue gun to glue the cutout to the board.
Step 3: Next, I arranged the flowers on the wood board to see where to place them. Then, once I was happy with the arrangement, I used a hot glue gun to glue to the bottom of the felt flowers to the board just like with the word cutout.
Step 4: Finally, you can add greenery to fill in the gaps between the flowers. Just tuck them underneath the flowers so it hides the stems. Use the hot glue gun to secure them in place.
This will make your sign look complete and full.
And that’s it! If you are able to use a hot glue gun then you can make a sign. It’s as easy as buying premade items found on Etsy or your local craft store. I always recommended supporting small businesses when you can because the makers put their passion into a beautiful finished product.
