Last week I posted about how I inherited some of my grandparents belongings Well, I found this rather large Mason Jar in my Grandpa’s basement. He was born during the Great Depression and used these jars all the time. I wanted to re purpose this particular jar into something that could be displayed, so I decided to make a lamp.
I was able to buy everything I needed to make it at the local hardware store. I used the following:
- Black plastic light socket
- Lamp cord
- Rubber grommet
- Construction adhesive
- Switch
- Vintage looking lightbulb
First, I drilled a hole in the back of the jar at the bottom and put a rubber grommet in it. This makes a nice neat spot for the cord to go. I also carefully cleaned out the inside of the jar to remove the glass dust.
Then, I threaded the cord through the hole and attached the cord to the light socket. After that I glued the socket to the bottom of the jar using the construction adhesive. I let it sit for 24 hours.
After I let the glue set I wiped out the inside and screwed in the bulb. A switch can be added to the cord once I know where I will put it.
I have it displayed on my nightstand and absolutely love.
I could not have done this project without the help of my Husband. He’s the best!
