The power of paint and 3 different types of lighting for a Modern Traditional Living Room.
We’ve officially got two weeks under our belt for the One Room Challenge. Things are definitely moving along, the painting is done and I have been busy buying furniture online. (If you are just tuning in you can also head back to week 1 and start from the beginning.)
Before we moved into the new house, I knew that I wanted to paint the walls white. White paint can brighten a room and it is a traditional color that never goes out of style. We used Sherwin Williams, Snowbound (SW 7004) which does have a grayish undertone but it is very subtle.
Here is a look at the living room when we first moved in. The walls were a green color that really wasn’t my style.
We painted the main floor including the entryway, kitchen, and dinning using Sherwin Williams, Snowbound (SW 7004). The phrase ‘the power of paint’ really does ring true. Paint can either improve or hinder a space. I love how the white paint brightens and even makes the room look bigger.

1 – Ceiling Fan
First let’s address the ceiling fan. I definitely want to upgrade it with a more sleek, modern one and wanted to keep a fan because I love how it circulates cool air in the warm months and warm air in the cool months. I found this one on Amazon (prime) at a great price.
2 – Wall Sconces
The living room also has two wall sconces on either side of the picture windows. I wanted to keep them but change out the shades.
The shades are an off-white color and really don’t match the interior design I am going for. I ordered two of these drum shades from Amazon (prime). They are white and will hopefully blend well into the wall. This is a more traditional shade with would work in almost any home decor.
3 – Floor Lamp
We had this black floor lamp from IKEA that we moved with us. This floor lamp is great for placing in dark corners in a room to make the area bright. I also love the contrast from the color.
Next week my husband and I will be making a coffee table and will include all the details. Make sure to follow along on my Instagram profile for some behind the scenes photos and sign up below for my newsletter for full updates.
