Remove carpet odor with this homemade Natural Carpet and Rug Deodorizer. Just sprinkle, let set, and vacuum up. This powder recipe helps eliminate odors caused by pets and dirt build up.
I have two dogs and a 7 year old daughter that track in dirt and get the carpet stinky. I have been buying store bought carpet cleaner for well over 12 years and I recently started making my own because it is cheaper and natural. This DIY Natural Carpet Freshener smells amazing and is made with just 4 ingredients. I love how fresh and clean my carpet and rugs look after I use this deodorizer.
How to make Natural Carpet and Rug Deodorizer
Supplies (affiliate links):

- Borax
- Essential Oils ( lavender and lemon)
- Glass Shaker
Instructions:
This Natural Carpet and Rug Deodorizer using just 4 ingredients and can be made in less than 5 minutes. The natural ingredients are baking soda, borax, lavender and lemon essential oil. Baking soda eliminates odors and borax helps loosen and lift away dirt. For this natural cleaning product, I like to use both lavender and lemon essential oil because they have a nice refreshing scent and helps kill germs.
I like to transfer the deodorizing powder into a glass shaker because it easily dispenses the powder onto the carpet. Sprinkle the powder evenly on the carpet or rug and let set for at least 20 minutes. I leave my homemade deodorizer to soak into the carpet for about an hour because the longer you leave it, the more it will seep into the surface. You can add dried lavender buds and lemon peel to the powder if you like. This step is optional.
I typically use this homemade Natural Carpet and Rug Deodorizer once a week. Not only does it make the house smell great but it cleans the carpet and gets rid of unwanted dirt.
