Hello there! My daughter just had Spring school pictures taken and I thought I would make a fun craft project out of one of the wallet size photographs. I combined my love of paint projects and paper crafts with this School Picture House Shadow Box. This is a fun and whimsical take on displaying your kid’s school picture. You can get as creative as you want to make a fun paper layout.
Supplies: (affiliate links)
- Wood House Shadow Box (bought at Target)
- Paint in Bright Salmon and Aqua Sky
- 12 x 12 paper pad
- Wood Smile (bought at Michaels)
- Washi tape
- Paint brushes
- Adhesive tape runner
- Glue Dots
- Decou-Page
- Scissors
Instructions:
I started by making a template for the inside of the shadow box using a piece of computer paper. Once I was happy with the size, I traced the template on my pattern scrapbook paper and set it aside.
I painted the outside and inside of the house shadow box using two coats of American Acrylic Paint in the color Bright Salmon. This is a very pretty and vibrant pink coral color and matched perfectly to the scrapbook paper I used.
Once the acrylic paint was dried, I glued the piece of scrapbook paper I previously cut-out using Decou-Page. Just apply a small amount of the adhesive using a paint brush to the inside of the shadow box and the backside of the scrapbook paper. Firmly rub the paper onto the shadow box and use your hand to smooth out any bubbles.
Now it’s time for the scrapbook layout with embellishments.
I started by painting the small wooden smile sign using Americana Acrylic Paint in Aqua Blue. One coat of paint was enough and I moved it aside to let dry.
I cut a few of the flowers out of a piece of scrapbook paper. For dimension I adhered a couple of the flowers with glue dots.
I kind of created a scrapbook layout with the wallet size school picture. Then I added embellishments like the cut-out flowers, wood smile sign, paper doily, and washi tape. You can get as creative as you want and this is also a great project to use up some of your scrapbook embellishments.
