Exciting announcement. I just opened a store online and you need to know about my cute Etsy shop now! Why you might ask? Well, if you like pretty, handmade home decor and signs then you should check out the shop.
In this post I am going to share the process of making my whimsical wood decor and how they can be used.
I have been debating for years now on what types of items I wanted to make and share with my readers and the world. My favorite projects to make have always been with paper. I am a scrapbook paper addict. I love the pretty patterns and colors.
When I really sat down to think of a product to sell, I narrowed it down to a couple of previous blog posts that did well. One post was some wooden houses that I painted and decorated with paper. A lot of people love home decor but necessarily don’t want to or can’t make it themselves. And that’s where the seed of selling a product started.
My husband is my number one supporter and I wanted to run this idea of making wooden decor and selling it on Etsy over with him. And because I needed his help with the woodworking part of making the decor. He was once again supportive and up for the challenge in cutting wood for me to use to create something special.
How To Create A Specific Style That Ties In With My Shop
Earlier I mentioned that I love scrapbook paper. Well, I am kind of a paper snob and my all time favorite brand is Crate Paper by American Crafts. There is just something about that company that when they release a new paper collection I just fall in love. Almost all of my paper projects are made with CP paper. And I knew that I wanted that specific style to be a part of the wood decor items that I sell.
When it comes to wood, I could have gone in many directions. There are reclaimed wood signs, barn wood, hollow wood and even mdf or pressed board. But I like clean, simple lines and solid wood. So, my husband recommended using dimensional lumber.
Coordinating paint colors with scrapbook paper is a must for me. I like things to be cohesive and matchy-matchy. I used to be a contributor for DecoArt the craft paint company and have a large collection of acrylic paints. I was able to find corresponding paint colors that match the CP collection, Magical Forest.
Scrapbook paper, wood and paint are the three main materials that I use to make the decor and signs.
